Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more. ~Proverbs 9:9 (NLT)
Some people think job security is being the only one who knows how to perform a role, complete a task, or fulfill an obligation. However, showing how vested you are by taking a leadership role and training others proves to be a win-win not only for them, but for you as well. Show others how to manage, be self-sufficient and in turn train others. Train them to train others. How are you helping others to grow?
Showing them what to do and how to do it is different than imparting wisdom to accompany the training. When you provide wisdom that comes from your experiences, lessons you have learned, and mistakes that you have made, it helps them to make wiser decisions. It helps them to lead with purpose and confidence that training alone doesn’t always provide. It gives them an additional guide with which to reason with resulting in more wisdom and knowledge. What wisdom are you sharing?
When you give back by passing on not only technical skills, but also practical application, you broaden mindsets, expand educational ceilings, and break didactic boundaries. Help others to grow by being confident and secure enough to show them how to be your back up when you are on vacation, and how to maintain in the event you are out for the long term. Be so poised and courageous that you can share the mistakes you made and the lessons you learned without feeling like your ego will be deflated because of it. Train them to train others. Show them that their value is not in only what they know, but also in what they do with what they know. Confident people aren’t afraid to show others how to be effective and make impact. How are you passing on what you have learned to help someone else?
